About Julie, the designer of Desert Style Stone ~

Desert Style Stone was founded this year in 2020. It has been a vision of mine for about 4 years now while trucking over the road. With not having any time to act on this new business idea the time finally arrived. Here you will find a new style of nail files.

The work began on this new business adventure in March of this year 2020. Coming from the great state of Arizona these nail files are made from natural sandstone.

They are all handcrafted. Each one is unique and different from the cut of the stone to the paint and decor. I do my best to keep them a little different from each other.

My goal is to take custom orders and eventually hire help. A portion of your purchase will go towards helping the homeless. Finding a way to help the less fortunate has always been on my heart since childhood.

Instructions on Applying the Swarovski Crystals to your Bikini 

STEP 1: Place Swarovski Flat Backs Hotfix style 2078 onto the bikini. Place a transfer film on top of the Swarovski Crystals and iron the transfer film to adhere the crystals onto the bikini. Gently pull the transfer film back. If any of the crystals do not stick, replace transfer film and iron once more.

If you are applying Swarovski Crystals to bathing suits that are not breathable, then it is best to use the Non Hot Fix Flatback Rhinestones and use the E6000 glue. The Crystal Katana is a fabulous tool that will pick up the Crystal Rhinestones and place them exactly where you want them. It’s a dream tool and will make your life and Flatback projects soooooo much easier!

A Useful & Sparkling DIY Customized Gift Inspiration!

When dreams come true, it’s fun to celebrate with sparkles & smiles!

Recently my friend graduated culinary school and she now has the wonderful opportunity to take her skills to the gorgeous wonders of Spain! She’ll be living there for a few months, training under a 5 star chef. With incredible hard work and determination, her dreams are really and truly, coming to fruition. I couldn’t be happier for her!

She threw a fabulous tapas themed fiesta to celebrate and I wanted to give her something fun, special and sparkly (of course) to commemorate her BIG accomplishment! Here’s what I made her….

A customized sparkling apron featuring Swarovski Crystal Rhinestone Flatbacks!

I found a colorful apron from World Market. I just swoon over everything in that darn store, so I had to go in with a mission and not stray, because if I did, I would have been tempted to take home one of everything. Mission successfully completed!

I imagine aprons can take a beating with all that is going on in the kitchen and I wanted to be sure the Swarovski Crystal Flatbacks would stay secure and last a very long time. In order to do this, I glued each crystal using E6000 glue.

I used the Swarovski Crystal 2088-12ss (~3mm) Clear Crystal Flatbacks

I also used my handy-dandy Flatback Rhinestone tool, the Crystal Katana! This helps to pick up the stones, place them exactly where I want them and secure them in place. I couldn’t do this project with out it! That’s GOLD Jerry… GOLD! (haha…if you’re a long-time Seinfeld fan like myself, you’ll appreciate that reference 😉

I arranged the Swarovski Crystals in little flower formations, with different quantities in each floret, randomly on the belt of the apron. I wanted to compliment the flower pattern on the apron, as well as accentuating hints of sparkle.

It’s simple and sweet, and complimented her style beautifully!

Thankfully, she Loved it! She put it on and wore it around, showing all her friends, which warmed my heart & was very sweet of her!

This DIY fashion design is easy as pie to make…easier than making pie, really. Swarovski makes Flatback Crystals that have glue that has been pre-applied to the back for easy application. These Flatback Crystals are called Hot Fix Stones. Simply create a design by placing the Hot Fix Crystals where you want them and apply your heated Bejeweler Pro Hot Fix Tool directly on top of the stones for a minute. Simple as that!

2 Handy Application Tips: 

1. Don’t Get Stuck Doing This – Place a piece of cardboard underneath the the portion of the fabric where the Crystals will be glued to. This way you don’t glue both sides of the hat together 🙂

2.  Don’t Ruin Your Fabric – The Bejewler Pro Hot Fix Tool has different interchangeable size tips for the various size Flatbacks. Use a one size smaller tip than the Flatback Stone itself, this way you won’t burn the edges of your fabric. (you probably won’t burn the fabric, but I always like to let people know about this encase they are using the Bejewler Pro Hot Fix tool on nice or sensitive fabric such as a wedding dress).
