These Trendy Tassels are Truly Tempting!

I have to admit, it’s taken me awhile to hop on this Tassel Trend bandwagon, but I’m on it now baby and boy does it feel good (ha,ha)!

I have really fallen in love with this jewelry trend!! It’s my little terrific tassel love story 😉

I first started seeing them at the Tucson Gem Show this year in February and my sister Lily asked me if I liked the tassel look. I said, “I don’t know yet, I’m on the fence about them.” Since then, I’ve seen them more and more and have fallen deeper and deeper. I don’t know what my hold up was, because let’s face it, they’ve got the whole package.

They’re fun and whimsical but can also be very elegant. You can replace the thread tassels for beaded or chain tassels and you can incorporate a beautiful focal point using unique larger style Crystals for a piece that really catches your eye. Plus they’re stylish across the board in necklaces, earrings and bracelets. Shall I go on? You can make cute little short tassels, or longer ones for a luxurious look. You can integrate Pearls with Crystals for a decadent design and add your own special touches of color or spiritual significance. See what I’m saying, they’ve just got it all!

This is a gorgeous color combination using Swarovski Crystal Bicone Beads in Crystal Rose Gold 2X, Light Rose AB and Powdered Rose Pearls. I love the matching color tassel and Swarovski Crystal Rocks charm, it’s sparkly and sweet!

These elegant crystal earrings use soft colors and gold touches in all the right places. The gold chain tassels are oh so chic!

Using larger Crystal statement stones before the tassel creates a dramatic focal point. The new Swarovski 5515-18mm Emerald Cut Beads would be a beautiful showpiece. The Swarovski Crystal Fancy Stones would also be fabulous because they can come with settings that have loops on the top, bottom or both, which would be an easy way to connect your necklace and tassel. This lavender color is to die for! I just Love it so much! It reminds me of the Swarovski color Smokey Mauve with its soft and elegant tone. It’s a timeless color that compliments most hues, even the opals such as Pacific Opal and White Opal. Jewelry Designs That Will Enthuse Even the Most Uninspired!

Yesterday I was reading the Swarovski SALT Magazine for a little inspiration (which by the way – is absolutely fabulous!) and I came across an article highlighting the fashion/design school called the Central Saint Martins college of art which is in London. Swarovski sponsors and collaborates with these students by donating gorgeous crystals to draw inspiration from and to be used in designs and contests. I wanted to point this out because I was especially inspired by what the school tries to instill in their students. A few highlighted themes include:

Free thought, independence of spirit, and a rebellious nature. These are just some of the qualities nurtured by this exceptional school whose graduates have gone on to be world leaders in fashion.

As jewelry designers, artists and creative people, I’m sure you’re always striving to design fresh and new ideas to your line. Expanding your horizons, evolving, and relentlessly pursuing your passion. Those are some of the reasons why being creative is so darn fun!

I find that these jewelry designs have somewhat of a chaotic nature. They combine many different elements together such as the Swarovski Mosaic stones, different shaped cup-chains, along with unique styles of beads, pendants and colors. Yet with all of this going on, if you look closely you’ll find that they are balanced out by a repetitive pattern. This duality is balanced very well and is a way in which you can expresses a real sense of creative wildness, while still maintaining its integrity and orderliness which so many people are naturally drawn to.

This unique bib necklace is a outstanding example of weaving mixed medias in and out to create one dynamically dramatic design. Integrating different textures such as Swarovski Pearls, Swarovski Crystals, Epoxy Clay (or Ceralun), ribbon and elastic mesh in complimentary colors creating an overall irresistibly enticing design.

This colorful crystal and braided leather bracelet features many different styles of crystals in metal settings which allow the crystals themselves to be showcased. I’m especially drawn to the overlapping look, it gives it a lively and energetic type of movement to the piece that is then grounded by the leather background. It’s a bohemian chic style that is both whimsical and substantial at the same time.

As a Designer, Ask Yourself This One Meaningful Question…

Today I fell in love with this simple, yet genuinely profound idea that can affect many aspects of our lives. Now, I don’t mean to be dramatic about it, but I think it’s important to take a moment and to honestly think about this worthwhile question.

The question is…why does beauty matter?

There are all kinds of answers to this question. A few that I have been reflecting on, is that beauty inspires us. Beauty helps us to pause and reflect on the joyous qualities of life. Beauty brings us happiness. Beauty is an expression of love.

I suppose a follow up question would be, where do you create or appreciate beauty in your everyday life?

Beauty can be found in everything….and I mean everything. It can be found in the smallest, most unassuming elements of life. It can be found in your morning cup of delicious coffee. It can be found in a single rose petal. It can be found in the words we say…or don’t say.

When I really started to amplify this idea and apply it to my life, I began thinking about the smallest details that I see and do every single day. Details that are beautiful and the details that could be made more beautiful.

The obvious beauty is how we dress, the jewelry we wear, the home we create. Maybe less obvious, is how we treat others, how we treat ourselves, our inner and outer vocabulary, and the tone of our voice. It’s always good to remember that everything we say and do has it’s effect in this world.

As we incorporate more beauty in our lives and become more aware of the beauty all around us, we in-turn become more beautiful.

We as designers need to truly remember that, it’s not just the end product of what we make that is beautiful. The process of making that product is also beautiful. The inspiration behind our creations, is beautiful.

Every time someone compliments your jewelry, that becomes a beautiful moment. We are creating and spreading beauty every step of the way, and that in-of-itself, is absolutely beautiful!

Supplies & Tools

Supplies: Alcantara, black, 20x18cm Fusible Interlining, 20x9cm Nylon thread, transparent, 0.15mm, 6m

Tools: Double sided tape, Iron, Scissors, Sewing needle, Sheet of paper, and Tweezers.

STEP 1: Print and cut out the leaf pattern.

STEP 2: Cut two 20x9cm pieces of Alcantara fabric and cut a 20x9cm piece of fusible interlining. Place the interlining between the two pieces of Alcantara and iron the 3 layers together.

STEP 3: Adhere the pattern to the fabric with double sided tape and cut out the shape. Flip the pattern and cut out a mirror piece of the fabric. (See illustrations for clarification.)

STEP 4: Insert Swarovski Fancy Stones art. 4320 8x6mm, 14x10mm and art.4706 12mm into Swarovski Settings as shown in this step using tweezers. Cut 1m nylon thread and sew half of the Swarovski Crystals in the material list onto one of the pattern pieces. Sew the other half onto the other pattern piece.

STEP 5: Sew the created leaves onto the sandals as depicted in the illustrations
